Project description:
This project investigates the interplay between Greenland’s economic ambitions and security needs amidst growing Great Power competition in the Arctic. As Greenland navigates its relationships with major powers like the United States, Russia and China, the project looks to examine the alliance dilemma that arises from differing economic and security interests. This multidisciplinary work will analyze the ambitions of Arctic and non-Arctic states in Greenland with an international relations (IR) and political economy perspective. A comparative analysis with the Åland Islands, Faroe Islands and Iceland will help us understand similar challenges, aiming to draw valuable lessons applicable to Greenland’s development.
