Year of grant: 2025 Research Area: MARiNAO Project type: Ph.d.-verkætlan Project title: An extended time series of deep overflow: how variable is the AMOC? Grant number: 8019 Project manager: Camilla S. Andresen Institution/company: GEUS - Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland Other participants: Havstovan, Jarðfeingi og Norges arktiske universitet Project period: 01.01.2026-30.06.2029 Total budget: Kr. 5.332.923 Grant from the FRC in DKK: Kr. 3.597.718 Project description: The AMOC is a key driver of Northwest European climate and a potential tipping element, sensitive to freshwater input. While no collapse has been observed, past records show abrupt shifts, and its current stability remains debated. The AXIS project will analyze sediment archives from the Iceland-Scotland Ridge to extend AMOC’s historical record, assessing its stability under past warm climates. By combining paleoceanographic and modern data, the study will reconstruct deep overflow variability and AMOC resilience, providing critical knowledge into future impacts on large-scale climate impacts and marine resources in the northeastern Atlantic Project status: Fer í gongd << Back |
